In 2024, we're launching the Maasai Story Project, interviewing elders of the community in the Maasai Mara to capture their stories in written and video form. We'll publish the stories in both Maa and English, in printed books for our libraries and beyond and in free ebooks to share widely. This has traditionally been an oral culture, and it has a lot to tell the rest of the world. 

 

Our goal is to preserve stories and traditional knowledge before they are lost with the current elder generation. Students will participate in the interviews, which will also strengthen their connection to their own history. We will capture folktales once told around the fire and perspectives that the elders can tell us about their own lives in earlier times, their pathways, and their wisdoms.
